Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative
United Way of the Tanana Valley is committed to helping end substance abuse addiction in our community. United Way is a partner with the Fairbanks Wellness Coalition, who is working to prevent the non-medical use of prescription opioids (pain relievers such as Vicodin, Oxycontin, and Fentanyl) among 12-25 year olds, as well as the use of heroin use among 18-25 year olds.
United Way of the Tanana Valley also funds programs designed to help prevent substance addiction by addressing protective factors. Protective factors are conditions that increase resiliency in children and young people. Grants are given to agencies who can demonstrate an impact in this area.
